The FSQ-106 is available in several forms. Firstly there is the original FSQ-106N with fluorite lenses. Then the FSQ-160ED sometimes referred to as the ‘New Q’. The latter had a capstan wheel to allow easy rotation of cameras. However, rumour has it that some of the heavier cameras gave rise to flexure and so the EDX was born. The first incarnation as FSQ-106EDX had the Camera Angle Adjuster added and the capstan still fitted. My version, the FSQ-EDX II has the capstan fixed and the handles from the capstan removed.

After buying my FSQ-106 I quickly realised that choosing the correct adapters to fit a camera to this scope would not be that straightforward. There are literally hundreds of Tak adapters and many variations of the FSQ-106.

I have used two cameras on this scope, a Canon 1000D and QSI583WSG at both f/5 and with the Tak reducer at f/3.6

Using QSI583WSG with FSQ-106EDX II at f/5

The QSI583 delivered as standard has a 1.25” adapter plate. In order to use the TCD0774 adapter a 2.156” adapter plate must be used.

The sequence of adapters is as follows

FSQ-106EDX > 67Flattener ring for TOA-130 (TKA31584) > Coupling TW FSQ (TKP30003) > CA-35 TSA-102 [TKA23201] > TCD0774 > QSI583WSG

The focusser needs to be pulled out about 15mm to achieve focus

Using QSI583WSG with FSQ-106EDX II at f/3.6

The QSI583 delivered as standard has a 1.25” adapter plate. In order to use the TCD0774 adapter a 2.156” adapter plate must be used.

The sequence of adapters is as follows

FSQ-106EDX > RD adapter CAA [TKT36002] > QE-reducer > CA-35 SKY-90 [T KA35201] > TCD0774 > QSI583WSG

The RD adapter is interesting in that it is a negative length adapter allowing the reducer to sit inside the Camera Angle Adapter
